Following My Child’s Quiet

This morning before heading to the airport, I saw Henry was waking and went over to snuggle with him. He pulled the blanket up to his chin again and laid in bed slow blinking. Tempting the sand man to return.

My brain was full of all the things I wanted to remind him to do while I was away; make sure you brush your teeth, be sure to eat something supper-y and not just cereal, be a good listener while I’m gone...

But if he wasn’t up to explaining how a crafting table works in Minecraft, or sharing the best strategy to survive a zombie apocalypse why should I stir his early morning with my to do’s and don’t forget’s?

So I followed his quiet. Stayed there with him while he slow blinked. And then when his brother woke up Henry invited him to do a mama and 2 boys snuggle. After a few minutes he said quietly “that’s it”.

I just stroked his forehead and gave him kisses on his cheek.

I was so happy I didn’t ruin it with all the things I wanted to say.
