How To Become a Ninja

When I was little it was my dream to become a ninja. One of many dreams. That dream didn’t change as I got older. It was a challenge though. I had no idea how to achieve this. What did being a ninja even mean to me? Scaling walls at night in a black jumpsuit with my face covered? No. Having an insane amount of finesse in self defense? YASSSSSSSS. But I didn’t even know what form of Martial Arts I wanted to learn. There seemed like so many to choose from.

Then I read something that described coming up with 3 tangible attainable action steps that could be taken towards a goal in a very short period of time.

The idea was to get some solid momentum going towards the chosen goal - fast. That’s it, just 3 steps. That sounded pretty doable. For me those steps looked like this;

  1. List my top 5 favorite Martial Arts movies and research what form was used in each movie
  2. Choose the form I wanted to learn
  3. Find a teacher

Well, once I wrote it out the path seemed pretty clear, simple and easy. And the best part was it all came together within a few weeks. I was training with a Wing Chun Kung Fu Teacher in no time flat. I trained for about 2 years until I moved too far from my teacher to be able to swing making classes regularly.

But many seeds were planted from that exercise.

Now, you could change “ninja” to many things. Maybe anything. You might have the goal of starting a food truck, learning to dance, taking a trip across Europe. And you might rock your goal so hard that you become a ninja in it.

Whatever it is, the first 3 steps are likely gonna be pretty easy to figure out. And then it’s just doing it. Just following the plan.

So tell me; what do you want to be a ninja in?
