My Soft Spot for Line-Dried

One chore I never mind doing is laundry. This is because I air dry outside. I find it extremely relaxing and soul-soothing. There is something that feels wholesome about it and it gets me to slow right down. It’s easy for me to enjoy the breeze and the sunshine while I’m hanging laundry. I like it when Henry comes out with me and pretends that the hanging sheets are portals to other worlds and runs through them.
I enjoy the fresh smell of air dried laundry. I enjoy the little extra money it leaves in my pocket. I love that it lengthens the life of my favorite t-shirt. I even love the crunchy crispness when I fold it after it dries.
There is something incredibly satisfying about seeing a guest bury their nose in a freshly washed towel and say with a smile on their face; “Mmmm…you air dried these.”
Air drying clothes outside on a line is a pioneering act of simplicity that connects me to nature and to my ancestors and I love that about it the most.
