When Lines Blur and the Science of Words

My thought process this morning;

And be warned, it might be a bit scattery, but see if you can follow me…

This morning I was thinking about something dear to me. I described the thing as important FOR me which led me to considering the difference between a thing being important FOR me vs it being important TO me.

“To” implies that the thing is a preference that has the potential to change. “For” feels like it is more intrinsic to my wellbeing. Which feels deeper and less of a choice, although it could be. That’s a decent difference.

Then I thought about how my process around this discovery sort of felt like science. Dissecting, analyzing, careful placement in a specific environment to experience and document a result. The science of words.

Then I thought; I like it when lines blur. Science and literacy are often perceived as being at opposite ends of the educational spectrum. But my thought process made me feel that the line between these two themes might be a bit more blurry than originally thought. Maybe a crossover of sorts exists there.

And I like it when lines blur. When lines blur for people then people become softer, more tolerant, more willing to consider other possible truths. And as we know from the science world, the truthiness of truth can change year to year. Or even more often than that.

Maybe blurry lines are a good thing. Maybe shaking up the black and whiteness of reality is a good thing. I sure as heck know supporting more tolerance, openness and compassion in our world today is a good thing.
