Will and Wonder Make Prayers Stronger
I’ve had some great conversations so far this week with guests and students around the power of exercising our will and imagination.
I’m a firm believer that when we put tangible action to a wish or desirable outcome we are giving it a turbo boost.
I see prayer this way too. Prayer is an act that utilizes our will and imagination and then whether we say it in our minds or say it out loud, even if it’s only a whisper, it becomes a tangible physical action in a sense. Simply because it requires effort.
Anytime we do that, we are showing a level of commitment to our desired outcome. And this is our will being exercised. (I acknowledge that more effort might be necessary depending on the desired outcome and what kind of impact we want to have to see it to fruition. And I’m not saying don’t put more tangible action in when that might be required of you for example; if you want a better job submitting resumes is a good idea. I’m all about being pro-active wherever possible because that turbo boosts the turbo boost, I’m just contemplating the idea of prayer and intention only here).
Prayer is a powerful thing because we are taking an idea or thought and creating structure around it. We are formulating words from the heart in an order that feels appropriate and profound and then often physically speaking it out. Turning it into something that now has some physicality tied to it. This gives it an element of realness. Especially in the releasing of it up into the heavens, into the cosmos.
And if you ask a religious or spiritual person, or anyone who prays, if they believe their prayers have the ability to influence outcome most of them will say yes, some of them will have some doubt, and all of them will hope they do. But no one will say no. Otherwise they wouldn’t do it. Belief is another wonderful topic for another day :)
