It’s been my dream for about 22 years to live in a cabin. 7 years ago I got tired of waiting and started building it myself.

A few thousand dollars, 53 YouTube videos and a hand full of lumber deliveries from Ace’s Building Centre later and I was set. Week by week I chipped away at it hand bombing almost every nail myself except for the odd gem of an occasion when I could wrangle someone into helping me.

When the nerves in my right hand went numb from the shock of pounding nails I switched to my left. Literal blood, sweat and tears went into building that thing. But it was mine. And I was proud as heck.

One day I was framing in the windows with the help of my darling dear Tamara. It was a smoking hot day. We were sweating. We were getting delirious. One of us had the thought of a YouTube channel that was all about naked chicks building stuff. Probably because it was one of those days where it was so hot that wearing clothes felt excruciatingly unbearable. Don’t ask me why, but in the moment it was hilarious. Maybe it was the thought of all that jiggling…(I read that part to Cameron just now and with a terrified look on her face signaling impending doom she said; MOM! That’s super risqué, holy cow…I don’t know…)

Anyways, I learned all the building terms and sounded quite pro measuring out those sills, headers, cripples, jack studs and king studs.

At one point near the end of the day Tamara stood up suddenly with clear indignation, and feeling desperate I’m sure to call ‘er quits - red faced with her hammer on her hip she said “Jack studs?! King studs?! where’s the QUEEN?!?” I looked at her with equal amounts of pride and sweat dripping off me and said “she’s f-ing building it.”

And we laughed with laughs that sent shivers up our spines like the howling of wolves sends quivers through the trees.
